Bardish Chagger Becomes First Female Government House Leader In Canadian History

Bardish Chagger becomes the first woman in Canadian history to hold the position of Government House Leader and this makes us super, super happy!
Bardish Chagger nabs the position of Government House Leader in a swearing-in ceremony at Rideau Hall this past week and we couldn't be happier about it. Word of her new political appointment broke this past week and its great news for the global South Asian community as Chagger becomes the first woman in Canadian history to hold the position of Government House Leader.
What's more?
Chagger also becomes the first visible minority Canadian to hold the position too. A double win in our books and a great visible representation to minority communities around the world and those fighting for the equal rights of women in the workplace and in positions of power.

"This is a tremendous opportunity. I have been involved in the political process for basically my whole life" Chagger said to the media. "I know what democracy should look like. Democracy should be engaging Canadians…" continued Chagger.
Chagger takes over the job from Dominic LeBlanc.

Ask her about her record-breaking appointment as the first woman to be named Government House Leader, and Chagger has a smile from ear to ear as she speaks to the media. “I am so proud to be part of a cabinet that reflects Canada,” she said.
Reflecting the "cultural mosaic" which Canada prides itself on is definitely something that Chagger's new appointment draws attention to. She was one of four Sikhs brought into Trudeau’s cabinet last year, something that Trudeau has been celebrated for within the Canadian South Asian community, and one that proved groundbreaking…clearly!
