The Bollywood flick Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara (OUATIMD) starring Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha released on 15th August around the world. The film is produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and is distributed by B4U.
While training at the acting institute, Khan began networking and met writer-director Abbas Tyrewala, who offered him the lead role in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na (2008). After producer Jhamu Sugandh experienced financial difficulties they offered the script to Aamir Khan, who agreed to finance the film.
The romantic comedy received positive reviews and was a commercial success, earning 830 million (US$14 million) worldwide. Khan's portrayal of Jai Singh Rathore (Rats)—a boy who does not believe in violence—was praised by critics.
Besides acting in films, Khan is a social activist. He often speaks about issues related to Indian society and young people (including the elimination of violence against women, political awareness and sex education)
Akshay Kumar (Shoaib) makes the transition from the role of an archetypal hero to a flamboyant bad boy in Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara. Imran Khan plays the character 'Aslam' and Sonakshi Sinha 'Jasmine'. OUATIMD also brings Sonali Bendre (Mumtaz) in a cameo, a nice surprise after a ten-year break.
The music is scored by Pritam and Directed by Milan Luthria; who also directed The Dirty Picture and the first installment of Once Upon A Time In Mumbai.
Here is what Actor Imran Khan had to say about his experience:
Imran Khan: I love playing around with my look and Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara (OUATIMD) gave me the right opportunity to do so. For the first time, the audience will see me in a new look and character.
What is your inspiration for this new look in OUATIMD?
I.K: I am highly inspired by the 1980s iconic stars – Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff. I love their “ada” (stylish) shoes, hairstyle and moustache. The look in any film is of high importance, as the audience can connect and relate to the particular time period. Besides, every single detail is very important, like how collars are done and hair is styled. Moreover, it is imperative to convince the audience that the film has actually been set in that time period or the audience will pull out of the film. They will stop believing that it is a 1980s film.
What’s your take on the script of OUATIMD?
I.K: The script is very cleverly written and extremely witty. Rajat (Arora) has done a great job. I love the one-liners in the movie. They are very catchy. In fact, a few of my favourite lines are: 'Aslam ko samajhne ke liye dimaag nahin dil lagta hai'. Then there is 'Khuda itni zehmat kar, bande par thodi rehmat kar.'
OUATIMD is a hugely awaited film. Where do you think its appeal lies?
I.K: OUATIMD promises a lot of drama, action and romance. It's a very appealing, entertaining and engaging film, with outstanding music.
Complete family viewing assured.
You have worked with Milan Luthria, Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha, all for the first time. How’s it been?
I.K: At the risk of sounding cliched, I will say that it’s been fantastic. I got along very well with all of them, at a professional and interpersonal level.
Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara released on 15th August 2013 through B4U.
