You’ve sat down and carefully narrowed down the friends and family that you would like to be your bridesmaid, popped the question and they’ve responded yes!

Now comes the fun part: choosing the colours, fabric and design of what they will wear.

Did you know that the concept of bridesmaids originates back to the Roman law where it was required 10 witnesses be present in order to outsmart the evil spirits believed to attend marriage ceremonies? The bridesmaid and the ushers would dress in identical clothing to the bride and groom so the evil spirits wouldn’t know who was getting married.

Thankfully, we have moved past that thought and have bridesmaids wearing something a little different to ensure that the bride is the star of her wedding.

When considering bridesmaid’s outfits, there are two trains of thoughts that I’ve seen: the bridesmaids pay for their outfits themselves or the bride provides it as a gift. Either way, involving your bridesmaids in the selection process makes it fun for everyone and helps them to feel included, which ensures smooth sailing.

I’ve seen some fabulous outfits that were all the same colour, variations of the same colour, multicoloured or have matched the bridal outfit itself.
