M Is For Madame-Kali is a three-minute short film by internationally acclaimed, award-winning Canadian director, Jazz Virk. The objective of Virk's latest piece is to raise awareness about the controversial topic of violence against women.
The story is inspired and dedicated to Jyoti Singh Pandey (aka Damini) the New Delhi gang rape victim whose brutal rape and murder shook entire India that came together to demand justice.
Made for ‘ABCs of Death Part 2’ competition, the film holds the tagline: A Woman's Revenge is the Hindu Goddess of Death and Destruction, Kali Ma!
The film showcases a group of vigilante women who lure a man for a sinister ritual where he must struggle for his life with Kali, who is considered to be the goddess of death and destruction.
The cast of the film includes popular names such as Swarit Jajal, Mari Sherkin and Shobna Sharma who plays the Hindu Goddess Kali.
M is for Madame Kali is written, edited and produced by Virk himself. Make-up effects by Melis Bayraktar, Jen Wright and Ro Ford, music/sound by Sickick with Neelam Bector and Vandana Sidhu's as vocals.
Due to the power of this passion project, cast members volunteered to be a part of the film, including local London/Ontario actor Swarit Jajal who came on board and decided to become its co-producer as well.
With 20 years of professional experience in film and television, ranging from TV commercials, music videos, shows, documentaries and film projects, its no wonder Virk has worked with a slew of artists. Nelly Furtado, Jazzy B, Sukhshinder Shinda, Jaz Dhami, Babbu Mann, Ghetto Concept, Choclair, Sonu Nigam, Prita Chhabra, Gunjan from Thievery Corporation, Jay Sean, Rishi Rich, Charlene and Slarta John from Basement Jaxx, Deborah Hodgson mentored by Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin to name a few.
The film’s online campaign involves an active social media network, friends and viewers are urged to 'LIKE' the film’s page on Facebook. The highest number of 'likes' for the film will secure the prize of worldwide distribution and it's release in the feature film ABC's of Death Part 2.
