Stand #WithMalala to Fund 12 Years of Education For Girls Around The World
Culture & Lifestyle Sep 21, 2015
Earlier this year, Malala Yousafzai celebrated her 18th birthday by opening a school for Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
More recently the documentary He Named Me Malala screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, profiling the inspirational Pakistani teenager and her fearless fight to empower young women worldwide.

According to the petition page however, “. . . a commitment only counts if a commitment is kept.” To that end, it calls upon the Global Partnership for Education to expand its focus from the current nine years, to a full 12 years of free education and asks that GPE partners provide additional funding so that girls are able to complete their secondary education.
While there are of course several organisations that can be tapped, the petition informs that the GPE is where a large amount of foreign aid for education is directed and it is a “major funder of education in some of the world’s poorest countries.” Hence Yousafzai is asking for the organisation to take a leadership role in this initiative.

Despite overcoming tremendous odds and surviving a Taliban attack on her life, Yousafzai has not been deterred from speaking out about the importance of girl’s education and has not rested on her laurels — even with the Nobel Prize being among them. Currently based out of Britain, she states in this latest petition “I am blessed every day to wake up and know that I can receive a free, quality primary and secondary education, but I shouldn’t be the exception.”
Within a week of its launch, the campaign had garnered over 200,000 supporters and the hashtag #WithMalala has received tremendous support on Twitter.
