Master-D Scores A Contract With Universal Music India
Subir Dev, also known as Master-D, is renowned for his work as a world or ethnic and urban composer, singer, percussionist, producer and songwriter — yes, a vey talented man indeed. His musical inspiration came from his mother’s Hindustani semi-classical background in North America. Growing up in a Western country but having Eastern influences around him, he learned how to fuse the two cultures together in music.
Master-D studied at the Trebas Institute, where he honed in on his skills as a musician and excelled at composing and producing music of all different genres. This experience led him to netting a spot on the Billboard charts, reaching a gold status for record sales. He then toured the world.
While producing music, he composed for independent feature films such as A Passage to Ottawa and a Catherine Zeta-Jones film, The Rebound. But with a passion for music, Master-D did not stop there. He created albums for bhangra artists and released a party break record that sold thousands of copies across North America and Europe.
Master-D more recently has been working with the group The Bilz and Kashif. Together, they've made hits such as "2 Step Bhangra" and "O Meri Jaan." "'2 Step Bhangra' was honestly created in 10 minutes," says Master-D, just proving his talent. Master-D has been topping charts for years and "Breaking Barriers" was further proof of his star power, which led to touring 50 cities, gaining 5 million views on the track "Tera Nasha" and getting 2 million views on the club banger "Turn The Music Up."
It's been a busy year for Master-D with hits such as "DesiChick" and "Aye Raat" topping the chart and also performances alongside Runa Laila. But it doesn’t stop there. Master-D just announced that he has been signed to the internationally renowned Universal Music India. “It’s a great feeling to be part of an acclaimed label like Universal as they understand the vision I have to change bangla music worldwide!” Master-D has said.
Vishal (from the Bilz) stated, "Honestly I’m extremely excited for his new project because it's something new for the industry. We love to innovate and Master-D is going to do that for the bangla community and all his fans worldwide. Securing the deal with universal certifies his talent to change the Bengali music industry and introduce the Bangla Urban. He’s been working on it for three years and I told him when the time is right we will do it … and now it’s the perfect time."
