Publisher’s Message, Fall 2007

In this Issue

As we delve into the festive season, it doesn’t take much to convince me that it’s time to party. It takes even less convincing if there’s a bottle or two of vino to throw in for good measure. From Diwali to Eid, Hannukah, Christmas and New Years, the season is bursting with the potential of fun, frolic and empty bank accounts. But just as I remind myself, I’m reminding you all–please don’t forget to set aside a budget for that charity you want to support every year and that you always mean to support more each New Year’s during resolution time. This year, let's make it happen together!

Here at ANOKHI, as you know, we support many initiatives through our awareness campaigns and active outreach programs throughout the year. This year we have decided to make our first long-term commitment to an initiative that we truly believe in–the Human Rights Watch. HRW is an active and aggressive platform that, among many other objectives, lobbies governments to curb human atrocities around the world. It has a history of great success stories, none of which would have been possible without the active support of dedicated volunteers, campaigners and monetary support.

With this issue and on behalf of the ANOKHI team, I’m proud to announce that ANOKHI magazine and AnokhiMagazine.com have committed to creating awareness on many levels (to our network base in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K.), to help generate support for HRW, which in turn will ensure that it continues the groundbreaking work that it has spearheaded in the past, well into the future. ANOKHI pledges to run an advertising and editorial campaign in each issue, beginning with this issue. Additionally, we will be helping to raise money through ANOKHI events.

For all of you who are interested in helping someone less fortunate get a real chance at not just existing but living, log onto the official HRW website, hrw.org, and join us as we strive to create a world that is a home for us all.

One of HRW’s prominent supporters is also one of MuchMusic’s sensational, hot veejays, Hannah Simone. Little known to most, Hannah is actually part Indian and part, well, read my Open ChestTM on page 78 to find out exactly what else she is, along with the many places she’s lived, and what some of her experiences have led her to believe. And if that's not enough, check out the photos – they're hot!

ANOKHI News

There are a lot of great changes we’re making at ANOKHI with you, our readers, in mind. We’ve added the capability to subscribe online through our website, AnokhiMagazine.com, and to boot, we have great savings of over 60 percent off newsstand prices so be sure to log on and subscribe.

We've introduced a new service at our boutique, FUSIA (on the third floor of the Bay department store on Queen and Yonge streets in Toronto), and are now offering custom-design services for that special occasion, as well as custom-bridal services for the entire trousseau. See page 44 for details of this incredible first-of-its-kind service at the Bay only at FUSIA. To book your one-on-one appointment with the FUSIA designer Alia Khan, please call 416.861.4525.

We also are currently redesigning our website to include all past issues of ANOKHI, as well as some other great features. And we will be launching a brand new website called OpenChest.com which will include all ANOKHI cover stories to date and all those to come, so look out for both in January 2008.

And finally, the next issue of ANOKHI is our fifth anniversary issue and to mark this milestone, we will be bringing you our biggest and best event ever. Highlights will include our journey so far, the second Sexy & Successful Awards, a fashion runway show, live performances, loads of giveaways and an after-party to end all. So be sure to check out our website for updates on how to reserve your tickets in advance. The ANOKHI Dream Team and I look forward to starting off the New Year with each and every one of you!

Until then,

Be UNIQUE. Be ANOKHI.
