Spring/Summer 2016 Swimwear Trend Report From Sao Paulo Brazil

Jun 29, 2015

We hit the runway at São Paulo Fashion Week to see what’s hot in swimwear and explore some Spring/Summer 2016 key trends. Of course when it comes to fab swimwear, why wait a year? Embrace these hot looks now.

As expected, there were skimpy bottoms, midriff-baring two-pieces and lots of skin. But there were a few surprises with broad lace and macramé giving us a hint of exoticism and athletic cuts softened with feminine touches.

Ellus

It was all sex and rock-n-roll on the runway for Ellus Spring/Summer 2016 collection. Swimwear options were scarce, but there were great options to mix and match for beachwear. Models sported tinted aviators with lacy cover-ups and sheer bikinis that left little to the imagination.

Alexandre Herchcovitch

Though there were not many swimwear options, what Herchcovitch did well was focus on creating curvy silhouettes paired with waist-cinching cuts or embellishments. A geometric, tribal-inspired two-piece pairs perfectly with the ebony metallic trimming around the waist and a personal favourite was a high-waisted, embossed leather, Brazilian-style two-piece.

Lenny Niemeyer

Brazilian brand Lenny Niemeyer gave us holiday in St. Tropez with a swanky monochromatic, floral and stripe, flutter sleeve, one-piece suit paired with chunky bracelets. A navy, body-rocking crop top and boy short bikini that favours athletic body shapes, and vibrant, multicolour stripes were playful twists on the classic sporty bikini.

Água de Coco by Liana Thomaz

Água de Coco designer Liana Thomaz is known to mix exotic prints and create luxurious designs, but for her 2016 collection she used various sewing techniques, including broad netting, to create kimono-style sleeves, full-body cover-ups, and macramé all-in-ones and two-piece bikinis. Another of my personal favourites was the recreation of the halter bikini made with soft layered cut-outs.
