Style Alert: Metamorphism of the wedding dress

Jul 23, 2013

Ever wonder what to do with that prized possession, that wedding gown of yours? That extortionate, dust collector you can’t seem to give up or even fit into anymore? An ecologically proud Canadian company—Harricana par Mariouche— known for its innovative, luxurious re-creations, has revamped beauty and wearable life back into previously-owned wedding dresses, proudly shown in their Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

Since the early '90s, Harricana has been creating exquisite remodeled pieces from old furs, silk, cashmere and most recently, wedding gowns. Its mission? To turn fine materials into the finest fashion. Their ethical standards and awareness of ecology have kept them producing designs within Canada under sound conditions. In fact, the designer Mariouche Gagné, who was born in the First Nations village of Loretteville, has her hometown as the manufacturing centre for half of the Harricana collection.

“We give gorgeous materials a second life and transform them into unique pieces, proving that fashion can also be sustainable,” she boasts.
