TD MOSAIC FESTIVAL AND MOSAIC INTERNATIONAL SOUTH ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL

Oct 07, 2014

TORONTO, CANADA

From August 7 to 16, the Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival took place in Mississauga (in the Greater Toronto Area) offering the best in film, music, comedy, dance and food. Celebrating its ninth year, this project of the Canadian Community Arts Initiative kicked off with a glamorous red carpet gala event that included the screening of the Bollywood film Ankhon Dekhi directed by Rajat Kapoor. The dark comedy is a fascinating story of a 55-year-old man who, after a dramatic incident, decides that he will only believe what he sees with his own eyes. The festival declared Canadian actor Raymond Ablack from the hit show Degrassi as its MISAFF star. Other screenings included the premiere of the English drama Vara: A Blessing and the British-Tamil crime drama Gangs of Tooting Broadway. The TD Mosaic Festival moved outdoors over the same weekend and featured live performances by Indian Bollywood singer Rekha Bhardwaj, Pakistani pop singer Zebunnisa Bangash and Canadian-born singer Raghav. Traditional Indian dances by Jasmine Lakhesar and Taala wowed the crowd. Festival directors Asma Mahmood and Arshad Khan and programmer and producer Anya McKenzie promised the audience that next year will be even better. Guests in attendance included ANOKHI MEDIA CEO Raj Girn, Mississauga mayor Hazel McCallion and V-Mix’s Dilshad Burman.
