Thoughts from the Editor-In-Chief, Jan 2011

Jul 15, 2013

This year, the Sexy & Successful Anniversary Issue rings in its second year, the gala rings in its fifth year and the anniversary of the magazine itself enters its ninth year. A bystander would only notice an odd collection of numbers. However, these numbers clearly serve as the building blocks on which the entire ANOKHI brand stands on, with the magazine being the anchor.

This year's issue is jam-packed with those we celebrate for having a banner year (Of The Year), those whose stars are definitely rising (Most Promising), as well as those who have reached the stratosphere and we must celebrate (Excellence).

This issue serves two important purposes: To celebrate and to educate.

To celebrate the successes of our fellow South Asians across the world. Here, borders are banished and we ignore the traditional call of allegiance to nation/religion/political boundaries. I continue to reiterate what I first declared when I first joined this magazine two years ago: "South Asian" encompasses those from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. And this magazine continues to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments that we should raise our glasses to as well.

Secondly, we want to educate. We want to use this platform to enlighten readers and recognize the incredible accomplishments of our fellow brethren. There are some with whom you may already be familiar; however, we relished in the discovery of those we feel definitely need to be on our—and your—radar pronto. And this is the issue to do it.

And of course, lastly, we are thrilled to toast the anniversary of this publication. This year has been a remarkable one, where we expanded to a six-issue calendar year. Our fab four: March, May, September and the Sexy & Successful Anniversary issue, and our inaugural special issues: July's Entertainment Issue and November's Holiday Gift Guide.

Needless to say, this ship is definitely buoyed by your valuable support. We managed to not lose focus of our mantra, which is to continue to bring to your doorstep, laptop and your social media feeds the highest quality of reporting— whether it is sharing the latest scoop from the international fashion, beauty and entertainment arenas, providing you with hot topics and updates in the health and wellness worlds, or tackling controversial topics that we feel need to be discussed beyond closed doors.

In this mission we are resolute.

So thank you to my wonderful staff, the extended ANOKHI family and of course, our publisher Raj Girn.

But most importantly I would like to thank you, the readers. I look forward to seeing through 2011with you all.

Best,
