Week-long events have popped up all over the world celebrating the latest and greatest in fashion.

Around since the late 1800s, runway shows started as fashion parades and became a global phenomenon with major cities hosting fashion weeks for decades. Now, more and more international locales are adopting this fashion tradition and putting fashion-forward versions of their cultural wear on runways alongside stylish wardrobe basics. Here’s the scoop on runways around the world. 

 

The Big 6:
Madrid, New York, London, Milan, Paris, Mumbai

The semi-annual fashion weeks of Madrid, New York, London, Milan, Paris and Mumbai are running the fashion industry today. These six fashion weeks have blazed the way for other fashion weeks around the world. These are the fashion weeks that need no introduction; they are known to house some of the world’s most amazing and renowned designers and create the next season’s trends in fashion, hair and makeup. 

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid: February 6 to 11 

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York: February 12 to 19 • London Fashion Week: February 20 to 24 

• Milan Fashion Week: February 25 to March 2 

• Paris Fashion Week: March 4 to 15 

Lakmé Fashion Week: March 20 to 24 

 

The Up and Comers:
Berlin, Istanbul, South Africa, Toronto, Moscow, Sydney

Quickly carving their names as the hottest fashion weeks, spots like Berlin, Istanbul, South Africa, Toronto, Moscow and Sydney are quickly attracting the attention of designers, buyers and stars. These fashion weeks are putting their own stamp on fashion week, whether it’s by introducing avant-garde fashion or underground trends or by having full figured models grace the runways.

Fashion weeks in Asian countries are a booming phenomenon, boasting a combination of Western pieces and traditional wear. Spinning out fashion forward saree outfits, futuristic meets ready-to-wear pieces, culturally infused gowns, chic kimonos and more, Asian countries have put their fashion weeks on the map with traditional wear with a twist.

When planning a trip to check out one of these fashion weeks be sure to give yourself lots of booking time, as hotels fill quickly. Confirm your tickets to the shows and be sure to pack lots of fashionable duds to stay stylish during your trip. If travelling is not an option, some fashion weeks have an online viewing option. Be sure to check their websites for up-to-date information on the Spring/Summer 2016 collections hitting runways in September and October so you don’t miss a moment of fashion creation.
