The Art of Beauty

As the old adage goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But what happens if the beholder’s perception is seriously jaded by society’s expectations? Which begs the question—what exactly is beautiful?

In this day and age when everything is nipped, tucked, blown out and Botoxed (and strangely celebrated with cover stories elsewhere), here we want to ensure that beauty lies deep within. We bring you substance without compromising your style. Let the tabloids tell their tale. We want to tell ours.

Here at ANOKHI, with our (2nd annual) Beauty Issue, we continue to explore and (enthusiastically) celebrate the art of the ‘gorgeous’. Our Beauty section breaks down spring trends, encouraging you to break out of your dolddrum days and ways of winter and go hot and heavy with the fruitful hues that this season lovingly bestows upon us. From Bollywood and beyond, we scoured the globe and now bring you the hottest beauty looks, tips, tricks and everything else in between. Speaking of B-town, one of the on-screen stalwarts of our generation, Kajol, sheds a brilliant light on her life, loves and her onscreen career as one of our generation’s leading thespians. (Open Chest page 82). Of course, along with beauty comes controversy. So without hesitation, we take a no-holds-barred approach to the controversial. Our provocative look at the riveting skin whitening phenomenon (Fair Game page 120) makes us question the actual fairness of the “fairest of them all” mantra that has seeped into our psyche thanks to Snow White. Her name says it all. And what happens when something as cherished as the female bond becomes irrevocably broken? (The Importance of Sisterhood, page 118). We tear down the walls and take a closer look at the inimitable bond of girlfriends.

So as the flowers emerge and the scent of spring is in the air, don’t miss a step. Bloom baby! You deserve it!

I always love to hear your feedback. Feel free to write to me at [email protected].
