Thoughts from the Editor-In-Chief, Spring 2009

Spring Awakening

Right now as I cast my gaze towards the Indian Ocean, I can sense a certain level of readiness that has enraptured the Maximum City, my second home, Mumbai. During my brief escape from the snow-capped streets of Toronto, I gladly realize that regardless of the temperature, that feeling of spring exists in all parts of the world. With the markets fluctuating and the doom and gloom scenario that has engulfed our psyche, it’s amazing to see that such positivity can still be mustered up. Regardless of what is playing out in front of us and being prophesied by the ticker tape-fuelled talking heads, one thing that cannot and will not be suppressed is the natural drive for rejuvenation. It is spring. And it is time to throw aside the cumbersome weight of these past months and relish in the possibility of rebirth.

Regardless of where you are located in the world, spring takes on many gorgeous shapes. From the classic bonnet during Easter Day Parade to the fresh colours of Basant, to Carnivale in Trinidad and Tobago, and of course one cannot ignore the kaleidoscope of white injected with bright and bold colours during Holi. And we at ANOKHI are diving right into spring with our first ever Beauty Issue. Our cover girl, international model Saira Mohan, gives us an in-depth look at what beauty is by presenting it in its various facets: a mom, a philanthropist, a model, a wife and a businesswoman.

We continue to celebrate this sensuous season by giving you the hottest tips and tricks straight from the fashion capitals of the world. Get the latest style tips with Monika’s Must Haves Spring Special (page 32), expanded into four pages to help you ring in the season just right. Our brand new Spring Trend Report Special (Beauty Trend Report, page 42; Fashion Trend Report page 72), breaks down the hottest fashion and beauty trends from the Milan, Paris and New York shows. For the man in your life, we have also introduced a brand new element that gives you the hottest fashion and beauty tips just for him (Male Room page 50; Men’s Spring Fashion Special page 78). Spring is not complete without the opportunity to really take stock of your life, and in this day and age, it is vital. Dr. Vermani gives us the lowdown on how to give yourself and your life the added value you deserve by sharing tips on making it more purposeful (Stop Existing, Start Living! page 114). Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder, and we take a closer look on the changing faces of beauty in Bollywood (Evolution of Beauty page 122).

Our first ever Beauty Issue is packed with what you can always expect from ANOKHI—our own unique and global take on the freshest picks of the season.

So take charge and spring into action. This is the time to embrace and be embraced.

Best,
