How Sexy Are You?

Ever had that moment when you’ve asked yourself “how sexy am I?” If you haven’t, then I suggest you do. “Why?” you may ask. Well, I’ll tell you: Because the word sexy has more often than not, been reduced to a static, peripheral meaning. For me, the word conjures up so much more. It has an expansive, organic meaning and no one hits it on the nail quite like the musical artist Suzanne Vega when she said,“I think people are sexy when they have a sense of humour, when they are smart, when they have some sense of style, when they are kind, when they express their own opinions, when they are creative, when they have character.” Now let me ask you: “How sexy are you?” Worth thinking about, right?

This issue’s Open Chest personality, Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, epitomizes this definition of sexy. She encompasses every layer of its meaning, and I’m sure you’ll agree, once you’ve had the chance to read my conversation with her on page 42. She reveals why she chose acting over following in her revered family’s political footsteps, what acting has helped her realize about life and about herself, why she waited until she was almost forty to get married, what happened to make her suddenly leave the film industry and just as suddenly make a dramatic comeback, and how she’s managed to look better today than she ever has before. Trust me . . . you want to know!

But she’s not the only one whose life journey symbolizes this notion of sexy. This issue, our very first Entertainment Special Edition, is bursting with the noise of sexy people—artists across all spheres of creativity screaming their creative mantras for all of us to see, hear, admire and be inspired by. From Hollywood to Bollywood, from mainstream to South Asian music—we have it all!

You may be wondering why we chose to dedicate an entire issue to entertainment. Good question! We are celebrating those who touch our senses in happiness and in sorrow, in love and in pain, so as to help us to understand ourselves as well as those around us and may create a clarity of sorts. Moreover, they may even serve as personal therapy or help us serve up therapeutic support to those we share our worlds with.

So grab your comfort drink, put something cosy on and sit back . . . heck, lay back and soak in the pages of ANOKHI; it’s time to get sexy

We’d love to hear what you think, so email us at: [email protected].

Until next time,
Always remember to Be UNIQUE. Be ANOKHI.
