Trend Report: 2017-2018 Resort Wear Trends For Travel Sizzles & Cools

Jul 03, 2017

It’s time to travel and as we make our way into the hottest months of the year, resort wear comes to the forefront as we look to the runways of  Havana, New York and Paris for fashion inspiration. Whether you’re going to Muscat, Montreal, Montana or your mother-in-law’s, here are our resort wear trends for travel,  perfect for your vacation!

Summer Sizzle

Balmain’s ultra sexy collection has us steaming for glamourous nights, while Zuhair Murad serves us a bohemian style with a tropical flair and Naeem Khan oozed Miami cool with a botanical motif.

Olivier Rousteing, Balmain resort collection 2017, had an impressive range.  It was a slight departure from his body-con looks as there was a balance with the luxe evening resort attire. The silhouettes were grandiose with kimono-style wraps. Gemstone tones flowed like liquid on satin fabric jumpsuits. While vibrant beaded and woven finished skirts paired well with halter-style tunics.

Inspired by fashion photographer David Hamilton and impressionist painter Henri Rousseau. Zuhair Murad’s resort 2017 collection had a docile and sultry aesthetic. Chantilly lace was the focal point for floor length frocks and free flowing tunics. So reminiscent of Hamilton. Wild floral detailing on organza and tropical print on a satin bomber and fur were spot on Rousseau.

Celebrity favourite Naeem Khan is lauded for his exquisite beading and embroidering techniques. It’s no surprise the inspiration behind his 2018 resort collection is the coolness of Miami and the elegance of the New York Botanical Garden’s Conservatory Ball. Khan showed ease with key red carpet looks. An embroidered floral décolletage-diving top paired well with a snow-white column skirt. A sleek and chic silver metallic number would be neck breaking for the paparazzi. While a full on black and rose, printed gown would leave you breathless.

Pretty and Cool

Nicole Miller’s casually cool collection is perfect for a fashionably relaxed vacay. Chanel reminds us, sometimes, we want to be a girly girl. And, though Carolina Herrera saw pink peonies and lilies. We saw pretty pops of colour!

A getaway holiday can be at time for relaxation but it can also serve some good ol’ fashion fun. Nicole Miller’s 2018 collection showing took place at Jane’s Carousel at Brooklyn Bridge Park. The location was well suited as designs featured laid back day wear of silky pajama separates and textured flirty dresses.

Set in Havana, Cuba, Karl Lagerfeld’s resort collection for Chanel focused on 1950s silhouettes with a “chic and modern” aesthetic. Models sashayed down the runway to a mixture of monochromatic tones and pastel hues. Black spencer jackets paired well with tiered lace and organza skirts. Column dresses were textured in tweed fabrics and were on trend with basic tees.

We gravitated to the pops of extraordinary colour in Carolina Herrera’s 2018 collection. Inspired by her home garden in her native Caracas, Venezuela. Herrera sparked life into her designs, mixing and matching vibrant hues. Each pairing elevated the simplicity and beauty of her collection.
