Sexy & Successful: Anjulie

Jul 29, 2013

Singer and Songwriter

She has a uniquely melodic voice and disarmingly frank lyrics. Singer and songwriter Anjulie is a new presence on the music scene. The Los Angeles-based songwriter is the youngest of four children raised by Indian-Guyanese parents in Oakville, Ontario. Anjulie grew up with diverse musical sounds at home with everything from Afro-Caribbean calypso, reggae and South American Latin music to the pop and rock. She has worked on several songs with Jon Levine, keyboardist for Toronto-based funk-pop band The Philosopher Kings, whom she met while doing an internship at Metalworks recording studio in Toronto. She got fired for hanging out with a client, but ended up getting a creative partner instead! In 2005, the pair wrote two songs for actress-singer Emma Roberts’ debut album Unfabulous and More. Anjulie also wrote a track on the Philosopher Kings’ album 2006 album Castles and penned “Don’t Call Me Baby,” which became a Billboard Top 10 hit in Canada for songstress Kreesha Turner. Anjulie's debut single, "Boom" was released in November 2008 and her self-titled debut album came out in 2009. She was nominated for the 2009 MTV Video Music Award for "Best Breakthrough Artist in a Video."
