Publisher’s Message, July 2011

Jun 15, 2013

How mundane would life be without the colour palette of our global entertainment industry? I don't know about you, but I’m not particularly enthused about viewing life in black and white unless it’s a silver-screen flick. Even in light of the plethora of sub-optimal products that are hitting the scene, I’d rather that and have the opportunity to choose what I want to watch, hear or read, than be resigned to the monopoly of yesteryears limited entertainment platforms. Granted, more doesn’t mean better but at least in today’s society, we’re given enough choice to sift through, filter and customize our entertainment basket full of goodies.

And, what a concoction of entertainment platforms we have at our disposal today—from TV, radio, theatre and cinema, to print, online and mobile apps. We have so much more to choose from that there’s almost an information overload in how we are able to access our entertainment interests. Our desire to be in the know is more prevalent than it has ever been in the past due greatly to this multi-layered access. But if you’re anything like me, it’s all good because that’s the lure of it all, isn’t it? Just like most anything we’re exposed to in life, it’s all about whether we want to be entertained or educated. Walt Disney hit the nail on the head when he said: “I would rather entertain and hope that people learned something than educate people and hope they were entertained.” Here at ANOKHI our goal is to do both—to entertain and educate, and from the outpour of feedback we’ve gotten over the past nine years, I’m confident to say that we have managed to do, sustain and grow both these goals, and we strive to continue to do more and more as the years roll along, because we have your unflinching support which we value and appreciate!

To this end, I’m thrilled to say that my OPEN CHEST interview and cover story this issue was conducted with my dear friend, actress, Lisa Ray. For those of you who have not been following ANOKHI since its inception (where have you been?), Lisa is the ONLY personality who has been on our cover a total of three times now, and each time she’s been a bundle of fun and laughs. For this particular OPEN CHEST, however, things were noticeably different—she appeared more calm, content and happier than I’d ever seen her before. Clearly her victory over cancer was a contributing factor, and one of the many things she spoke to me about during our day together. Read our complete conversation on page 40 and view our OPEN CHEST TV episode online at http://www.openchest.com/main/oc-tv/.

With that said, welcome to this, our 2nd Annual Entertainment Special Edition, which is jam packed with everything Hollywood and Bollywood, western, eastern and crossover music, entertainment gadgets and gizmos, global event highlights, and some fun celebrity factoids—you’re gonna LOVE it, trust me. (We did, while putting it all together!)

Don’t forget to let us know what you think because you know we love to hear from you… [email protected].

Until next time, always remember to Be UNIQUE. Be ANOKHI.
